Shimogamo Shrine (Kamo-mioya-jinja)

A location of power and registered UNESCO World Heritage Site as one of the "cultural properties of old Kyoto".

The Shimogamo Shrine is surrounded by thick forest possesses many important cultural treasures. Sights to see include shrines to protective deities of the 12 signs of the Chinese zodiac, used to pray for favors involving marriages and beautiful women.
The Aoi Festival held on May 15 every year is another one of the three major Kyoto festivals.
