Kawai-Jinja Shrine

A place of power for women of a refined mind, and for prayer concerning beauty, marriage and childbirth.

A world heritage site found nestled in the larger Shimogamo Shrine.
Famous for its hand mirrors in the shape of a Shinto "Ema" (small wooden plaques on which Shinto worshippers write their prayers or wishes), on which women apply makeup for prayer related to beauty. Many women gather to worship here.
