Popular Sightseeing Spots! Arashiyama Togetsu Bridge and bamboo forest walk!
The bridge was originally built over the Katsura River around 840, and became known as Togetsu Bridge after Emperor Kameyama saw the moon crossing the bridge. The present bridge was built in 1934.
Another symbol of Arashiyama, the Bamboo Grove Path is a 400 meter path that runs from Nomiya Shrine through the north gate of Tenryuji Temple to the Okochi Villa. The manicured bamboo groves that line both sides of the path are one of Kyoto's most popular tourist attractions. It is said that during the Heian period (794-1185), this area was a vacation home for aristocrats.
